SkyMesh™ series terminals are the best sellers since they were first introduced to the market in 2005 for their unique capability to provide mesh connectivity and/or multi-star network
structure. For the first time in the VSAT industry, network operators have a choice of using a single platform to offer both star and mesh network applications. Traditional star network brings entire network traffic to the operators’ hub.
SkyMesh™ terminals eliminates the need of a secondary link via 2nd hopping or cables to forward user traffic to the final destination.
SkyMesh™ terminals offers high performance, ease of use, fast acquisition, widest range of data rates from 16 Kbps to 8 Mbps in SCPC mode, and most importantly, their high channel efficiency for low cost network operation cost.
These benefits directly relate to minimizing the bottom line of every VSAT network operator. SkyMesh™ 2000 & 4000 series terminal are family members of SatPath’s innovative SkySwitch™ VSAT networking system.
When the terminal is used in the networking mode, it functions as a multi-channel modem and IP router in a mesh network. Due to its low latency and high channel efficiency, it is a better alternative to mesh TDMA terminals for cost saving and performance improvement.
When the terminal is used in Standalone Mode, it functions as a high performance and high rate pre-assigned (PAMA) MDPC (Multiple Destination Per Carrier) modem with embedded IP router. Using SkyMesh™ series terminals in standalone mode can provide mesh connections among SkyMesh™ remotes.
Application in MDPC mesh connectivity is particularly suitable for voice and multicasting video connections. Users of standalone SkyMesh™ series terminals have the option to upgrade their MDPC network to full DAMA (Demand Assigned Multiple Access), BOD (Bandwidth on Demand), and support of intelligent network traffic switching by adding SkySwitch™ NMCS (Network Management and Control Subsystem) to the network.
When used in Networking Mode, SkyMesh™ series terminals feature high performance multiple two-way MDPC links to the network hub or a remote control site, located at the corporate user headquarters. The latter capability sets the terminal and SkySwitch™ network apart from other VSAT platforms on the market. The convenience of configuring network structure is a unique function supported by the entire SkySwitch™ network system and every terminal in the product family. Each remote site in SkySwitch™ network has its own dedicated MDPC carrier. SkySwitch™ terminal transmits a smaller single carrier sized to support the traffic of a single site instead of a large TDMA carrier shared by multiple sites. SkyMesh™ uses no channel overhead for multiplexing and there is no need to use larger antenna and ODU to |
provide extra power for aggregated traffic of multiple sites. It results performance improvement of faster carrier acquisition for faster response time in realtime applications.
When used in DVB-SCPC Mode, SkyMesh™ provides highly efficient MDPC return channel for mesh connection in addition to broadband access. The combined benefit of DVB-S/S2 with SkySwitch™ MDPC return channel results the lowest possible operating cost for broadband network operator. |
